Trade Badges

Regulator: The Regulating Petty Officer (RPO) wears this badge, and is second to the Chief Petty Officer First Class (CPO1), also known as the Coxswain (Cox’n).

Communicator: May be worn by a cadet who has the ability to send and receive a plain language message of at least twenty-five words at the rate of six words per minute in both semaphore and Morse Code. The Communicator Badge is senior to the Semaphore Badge.

Bandsman: May be worn by a cadet who has qualified to play an instrument in a band.

Gunnery: May be worn by a cadet appointed as a Corps Gunner (in charge of drill team).

Boatswain: May be worn by a cadet who has completed one year in the Corps and who has passed all the required examinations successfully.

Qualification Badges

Sailing: May be worn by a cadet that has proven sailing experience (e.g., via the Sailing options course).

Semaphore: May be worn by a cadet that has proven semaphore experience (e.g., via the Semaphore options course).

Boatwork: May be worn by a cadet who has completed the Cadet Boatwork Training (via the Boatwork options course).

Other Badges

Merit: The Navy League “For Merit” badge may be awarded annually to the three most outstanding cadets for each twenty-five enrolled, by the Commanding Officer, having regard to the conduct, appearance, attitude and attendance of the cadet.

NL First Aid: May be worn by a cadet who has completed the Cadet First Aid Training.

First Aid: May be worn by a cadet who has completed a First Aid training other than NL Cadet First Aid Training.
